What is it?
Rosacea, often referred to as "adult acne," is
a condition that involves redness or rashiness of the
face, broken capillaries, swelling
of the pores, and acne-like skin imperfections. The
exact cause of Rosacea is not known, so there isn't any
one cure, but there are treatments and methods of prevention.
People who have Rosacea usually begin
to notice symptoms between the ages of 30-50, and generally
mostly toward the later part of that range. Time has
shown that this condition is prominent among fair-skinned
people,
especially
those
who have a tendency
to blush easily. While women are more often affected,
men who have Rosacea tend to have more severe symptoms.
How
can Rosacea be treated?
Again, Rosacea unfortunately can not be cured, but
there are ways to treat and control the symptoms.
It is recommended that sufferers of Rosacea avoid
things that seem to trigger a reaction. These may
include alcohol, spicy or rich foods, nicotine, caffeine,
heat, and sun exposure.
There are some topical creams
that can be applied at home for temporary relief
of Rosacea symptoms, but the best treatment proves
to be intense light treatment performed in office.
This is referred to as photofacial, and invovles
a series of treatments with minimal discomfort
and no downtime. Light and laser treatments can
vary, though, and should be customized to each
patient's situation. We work with patients to build
the best, most effective package of skin care treatments,
and also offer great treatment package prices!
